A hero is someone who steps up when everyone else backs down

HEROES

We hear a lot about heroes.  Heroes on the battlefield, heroes in sports and then there are many heroes of the faith mentioned in Hebrews chapter 11.

But did you realize there are heroes all around us?  We do not recognize them when we see them, for they are the ones who never get their names in the paper.

There are many Christian men and women who stop what they are doing to help others.  They sacrifice themselves in the service of others.  Preparing meals for funerals, giving blood, visiting the sick whether in the hospital or at home, teaching Bible study classes, or helping the elderly during severe thunderstorms.  Many things Christians do which some never think about, but God sees them.

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”    (Philippians 2:4)

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.  For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”          (Luke 6:38)

“But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?”     (I John 3:17)

“For I was hungred, and ye gave Me drink:  I was a stranger, and ye took Me in: Naked, and ye clothed Me:  I was sick, and ye visited Me:  I was in prison, and ye came unto Me.  Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we Thee hungred, and fed Thee?  Or thirsty and gave Thee drink?  When saw we Thee a stranger, and took Thee in?  or naked, and clothed Thee?  Or when saw we Thee sick, or in prison, and came unto Thee?  And the Kind shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me.”     (Matthew 25:35)

“The word heroism is used to describe daring deeds on battlefields and dangerous exploits in blood curdling crises.  However, it aptly pictures millions in the everyday walks of life.  The person who faces what he must and fights the daily battles with an unconquerable spirit is a hero – crown him.  The woman who died for her child is a heroine, but so is she who gives her life day by day to see her baby blossom into maturity – crown her.  The person who leads a crowd in difficult times is a hero, but so is the person who has the bravery to break with the crowd and stand alone in his convictions – crown him.  He who died for his faith is a hero, but so is he who lives it.  Crown him.”      ~ Leroy Brownlow
