She kept his clothes and periodically smells them to remember his scent.

If there is one thing about human nature which is difficult to navigate, it is change.  It is true not only in my life but in the lives of many others.  It’s very difficult to open the door when what was once familiar to you is no longer there.  Whether it is a new job, the loss of a loved one, graduation, or the loss of a spouse, the future can seem frightening.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”    Proverbs 3:5

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”    Romans 8:28

It took me some time to accept what the Bible says about the future.  I could move forward with faith in God or sit down and quit.   Some alternative isn’t it?  I chose to get up, show up, dress up, and move forward in faith with Him at my side.  Not all days are easy, but this is true for all of us.  We all have challenges and struggles in this life to face.  Those who are faithful Christians know He will never leave nor forsake us.

I know of a woman who lost her husband a number of years ago.  She could not face his death.  She kept his clothes and periodically smells them to remember his scent.

A preacher I knew lost his wife and shut his home to any visitors, at least until we came along.  Because my name was similar to his wife’s, he allowed me and my husband into his home.  Many in the congregation were very surprised for he had not allowed them in for several years.

When we went through this brother’s home, all was the like the day his wife died.  Until the day he died the house remained the same.  Both of these people would not accept change and were stuck in the past.  Life moved past them.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield;  my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped:  therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;  and with my song will I praise Him.”   Psalms 28:7

“In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”   Proverbs 3:6

And they that know Thy name will put their trust in Thee:  for Thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek Thee.”     Psalms 9:10

We cannot keep the storms of life from coming, but we can control how we face them.  Underneath it all is not the fact of letting go but learning to start over.  This is true in every situation we face.  May God give us all the courage to face and embrace life with Him.

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.  He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names.  Great is our Lord, and of great power:  His understanding is infinite.”      Psalm 147:3
