Prayerless and Prayerlessness

Prayer is an integral part of the Christian life, or at least it should be.  Prayer is where we get our strength.  Prayer is where we can pour our hearts out to Him and tell Him our deepest fears, our joys and our gratefulness.  He wants to hear from His children and He’s only a prayer away.

I have written of prayer many times, and I can’t articulate enough the importance for the faithful child of God.  In times past, I never saw the importance of prayer as I should when it would have helped me immensely.  He was a prayer away, and I neglected prayer quite foolishly.  But now prayer is a vital part of my daily life and I pray many times a day.  I find rest, peace, and comfort in prayer.

“Prayerless, a. Not using prayer; habitually neglecting the duty of prayer to God; as a prayerless family.”

~ American Dictionary of the English Language – Noah Webster 1828

“Prayerlessness, n. Total or habitual neglect of prayer.”     ~ American Dictionary of the English Language – Noah Webster 1828

“Prayer has always meant much to the children of God.  It is a powerful avenue open to them, not open to those who regard iniquity in their heart.

When one cherishes sin in his heart and refuses to give it up, his prayers rise no higher than his lips.

“If any man see his brother in a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life of them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death:  I do not say that he shall pray for it.”    (I John 5:16)

But in a finer vein, one of the most impressive statements on the changed life is that of one whose life has changed from being a servant to sin, and submitting to the will of our Father.

“For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.”       (Romans 6:20)

They were sinners and now they are not.  This is the design and purpose of religion – to raise one above sin, which qualifies him to pray, unburdens him to live, and prepares him to die.

Be it said to the credit of the composer, God heard him.  The reason – he did not harbor sin in his heart.”

The question for all:  Is thy heart right with God?  A most profound and thought provoking statement!

“Sometimes God calms the storm . . . sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms His child.”      ~ Unknown
