Our lives change in the blink of an eye, and it is only then we are shocked into reality. We learn too quickly we are not here to stay, but just passing through. What scares people, at least the people with whom I am acquainted, is what is on the other side.
A study of God’s Word is imperative in our lives so we may come to a knowledge of truth and know with certainty what will happen beyond this life. In reality, it is easier to walk right up and face the facts about eternity and where our souls will go after we die, for we will spend eternity somewhere. It is up to each individual to search the Scriptures daily to know if they are saved or lost (1 Jn. 5:13).
“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” Revelation 20:12
“Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end. There will be no more minutes, hours or days. All the things we collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else. Our wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what we owned or what we were owed. Our grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear. So too, our hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do lists will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won’t matter where we came from or what side of the tracks we lived on at the end. It won’t matter whether we were beautiful or brilliant. Even our gender and skin color will be irrelevant. So what will matter? How will the value of our days be measured?
What will matter is not what we bought but what we built, not what we got but what we gave. What will matter is not our success but our significance. What will matter is not what we learned but what we taught. What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate our example. What will matter is not our competence but our character. What will matter is not how many people we knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when we’re gone.
What will matter is not our memories but the memories that live in those who loved us. What will matter is how long we will be remembered, by whom and for what. Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident. It’s not a matter of circumstance but of choice. Choose to live a life that matters.” ~ Josephson
And the only thing which should matter is a life lived solely for Him, and when the time comes for us to depart: “When He comes to get His own, He will have no trouble recognizing me; my colors will be clear.” ~ Excerpt, The Disciple’s Charge
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:21
“For where in such a medley do we find love, or courage, or beauty, or nobility of heart? And where is faith, and benevolence, and patriotism, and loyalty? These things have to do with that other realm – the invisible. And it is this realm of the spirit, which alone gives significance or worth to the fleeting episode of our few earthly years.” ~Tant
