“The devil doesn’t sleep. He never shuts his eyes. You never hear him creepin’. And just when you thought you had him beat, he’s on your shoulder. He’s in your ear, whisperin’. Lyin’ again, and again, and again. You tell yourself he’ll leave you alone. You turn your back, and brother man, it’s on.”
These are just a few lines from a song I heard yesterday while coming in from work.
It’s true; the devil never sleeps. He’s right there on your shoulder when you choose to gossip.
He’s whispering in your ear and telling you to take illegal drugs. (One time won’t hurt.)
He hides out in the sparkle of wine. (No harm in drinking.)
He hides out in words better left unsaid. (I just have a short temper.)
He hides out in compromising God’s Word. (We all have our own interpretation)
He hides out in false accusations. (I didn’t know they would lose their job.)
He hides out in slander. (I didn’t think it would hurt their reputation.)
He hides out in lies, and robbery and stealing, and murder. Always whispering in your ear these things were justified and God lied to you about them hurting you or anyone else. In the end you find God was right and the devil lied.
He hides himself in so many subtle and powerful ways to catch us off guard and succumb to evil. He will attack where least expected and at our weakest moments.
He haunts and stalks us day and night. He hasn’t changed since the fall of man in the garden. And he still entices us by making things look good while underneath it all is death.
As a line in a movie once said, “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”
He’s in every heartache and hurt.
He’s in everything you ever desired.
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (I John 2:16)
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (I Peter 5:8)
“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” II Corinthians 11:14)
“And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” (Job 1:7)
“Satan promises the best and pays the worst.
He is a liar from the beginning.
The foolish are deceived by him. The promised crown becomes a halter. The promised comfort becomes torment; the promised honor becomes shame and the promised heaven becomes hell.” ~ Unknown
