Praying for others

For this reason we also, from the day we heard about you, have not ceased praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, Colossians 1.9.

It is such a blessing to hear that someone has obeyed the Gospel. Even though you may not know the person, you rejoice with them in their decision. Paul prayed for those of whom he had heard.

Paul asked that God would fill them with the knowledge of his will giving them spiritual wisdom and understanding. This does not come without effort. It only comes through the reading of God’s word. Jesus rebuked the Sadducees for being deceived because they did not know the scriptures, Matthew 22.29. It is sad to see how many people do not read God’s word to know what it says.

Knowing his word will enable you to live worthily before the Lord. It is the manual that teaches you how to please him. It instructs you in how to grow in the knowledge of God. This enables you to grow strong while displaying patience and firmness with an attitude of thanksgiving.

Do you pray for those who are new in the faith? May you follow Paul’s example, praying they become firmly grounded in the word.
