As you get older, you find out that true happiness is not how much money you make, or how many degrees you have, or how big your house is, or how fancy your car is

Four years ago this past January, my friend became a Christian.  He was a member of a denomination for over 85 years, but when we began studying God’s Word, he came to realize he didn’t know the truth. One day, when I went to check on him, he had a troubled look on his face.  I asked him what troubled him.  He told me he couldn’t sleep.  I asked why.  He then told me it was because he wasn’t a Christian.  I immediately called my preacher and we met at the building along with my preacher’s secretary.  He became a New Testament Christian.

During the past four years I have watched him grow as a Christian.  There have been many questions during those four years regarding Christianity.  I’ve watched a man who was rough around the edges mellow as he has learned more about how to live as a Christian and to grow in Christ.  It took a while, but he agreed to knocking on the classroom doors on Lord’s day to alert the teachers class time was over.  It won’t be long before he will be leading prayers.

Many people don’t know this about my friend, but he is a kind, compassionate, filled with integrity, and benevolent man.  This lesson is in tribute to him and others who have grown in Christ and have become examples to those who are younger.  God’s Word, when read, studied and lived, truly transforms a person from self-will to His will.

Christianity is the best life to live in this world.  If we are found faithful to Him, we will live with Him through eternity.

“The Bible pays a beautiful tribute to age:

“The beauty of old men is the gray head.”      (Proverbs 20:29)

“Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom”   (Job 32:7).

This is due to the lessons learned from rest and labor, health and illness, achievement and disappointment, ease and struggle, peace and war, sowing and reaping.  They have experienced life in every form; they have seen the best days and the worst of days.

The most adorable and lovely people in the world are those who have been mellowed and softened by the passing of many years.  They radiate kindness and consideration, calmness and tranquility, knowledge and wisdom.  Their lives have had double portions of laughter and tears, joy and triumph, heartbreak and ecstasy, and each has done its part in the enrichment process of forming a strong and noble character.  And now, seasoned and matured by years of experience, they are living in their Golden Years.  Look the world over for beauty, and you will find none greater than this.”                    ~ Leroy Brownlow

“As you get older, you find out that true happiness is not how much money you make, or how many degrees you have, or how big your house is, or how fancy your car is.  It’s finding peace and joy and a calmness in your life that becomes the most important thing to you. God matters to you.  Your family matters to you. Your friends matter to you.  Love matters to you.  Things that are of quality and not of quantity.”
