Be Still And Know That I Am God…

Why is it so hard for us to “be still”? Why do we worry and try so hard to control the issues of life on our own? Why can’t we remember who’s really in charge in our lives?

In Psalm 46:10, the Bible tells us, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”(KJV)   We cause ourselves so much stress and worry when we don’t trust in the fact that God is in charge and He has promised that He will not allow His children to be tempted more than they can handle. I Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (KJV)

I realize as a woman, worry comes natural to most of us, even though we ought not do it. Let’s take a look at what the Bible says to us about worry.

Let’s read these scriptures together.

John 14:27 ”Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (KJV)

Also, in Matthew 6- 25-34, we read in verse 25, “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on…” Then, in verses 33 and 34 we read, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself…” (KJV)

These are beautiful scriptures that teach us not to worry, but because we are not perfect, we will probably find ourselves worried again!

What causes this problem?

Is it a lack of Faith?

The Bible says that we are not pleasing to God if we do not have faith. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (KJV) We must seek Him, not try to do it all on our own!

He wants us to come to Him and trust Him to carry us through! In 2 Corinthians 5:7 we read, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (KJV) and in Isaiah 26:4, the Bible says, “Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.” (KJV)

Are we lacking in faith? If so, what can we do about it?

The answer to our problem is PRAYER!

We need to pray to our God and ask Him for His help in to have the proper faith in Him and to help us let our worry go.

Philippians 4:6-7says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (KJV)

As Christians, we can know that He hears us when we pray. I John 5:14 -15 says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” (KJV)

Reading in 1 Peter 5:6-7, it says, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (KJV)

Again in John 14: 13-15, we read, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (KJV)

So, from what we see in these scriptures, He promises to hear us when we pray and ask for His help. Let’s try harder as women, to try to control our worry. Let’s show God that we have a living faith! Let’s show Him that we trust in Him and want to obey Him in all things. We need to pray to Him and thank Him for always being there for us!

What a blessing to know that He is there ready and waiting on me to be still and know that He is God!
