This morning as I walked through the doors at school. I saw two tables laden with many varieties of canned food to give to those less fortunate. And overnight two rows of brand new bicycles were lined along the corridor. These will be given to less fortunate children who otherwise would have no Christmas presents, or very little. I saw many young people smiling as they brought food to the tables. They are opening doors and being considerate of others, and not just during this season of the year, but year round. This behavior is becoming contagious to their friends as well and is a credit to God, their parents and teachers who have great influence upon them.
Indeed, this is how God wants us to be every day of our lives and there is no time better than the present to train children to think of others and give with no thought of return. Thinking of others and less of self. This is loving our fellow man as our Lord taught us. If we don’t love them, how can we say we love God.
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
“Giving is better than receiving, though it is contrary to popular belief. Of course, receiving is good; if not, giving is not good, for you can’t have one without the other But of the two, giving is more rewarding.
Julius Caesar is reputed to have said that no music was so charming in his ears as the requests of his friends, and the supplications of those in want of his assistance
A giving had is a gathering hand – collects more than it hands out. It is most ennobling. It is the life of love. It is humanity’s touch of divinity in one word.”
~ Leroy Brownlow
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6:38)
“Giver, n. One who gives; a donor; a bestower; a grantor; one who imparts or distributes.
It is the giver, and not the gift, that engrosses the heart of the Christian.” ~ Kollock – American Dictionary of the English Language – Noah Webster 1828
