Many times throughout our lives we are placed into positions to stand for that which is right, but coupled with that stand is another part of the equation which is bravery, and with bravery, a principled life, without which we cannot live boldly before our Father and our fellowman. The principled and disciplined life can live without fear of a knock on the door for we know that we have lived righteously before all.
“The wicked flee when no man pursueth; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” Proverbs 28:1
The works of darkness are just that. Evil is done under the cover of darkness so that no one will find out. Everything, and everyone becomes fearful when we live a life that condemns us, but living conscience free, we can look others in the eye without fear, and walk in the sunshine with boldness and confidence.
“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:22
“For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.” Proverbs 4:16-19
“For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:14
I knew of a woman that I thought was very nice, and though not a Christian, her reactions one day to an accident surprised me very much. An officer had accidentally bumped the fender of her car. When she found out about the accident she became very angry with the officer and said things before my fellow co-workers that a woman nor a man should never say. Since then, each time I see her, that incident comes to my mind. I did not see the officer’s face, for the angry words were in another room, but you could hear the tone and words.
When we become angry and do wrong, though we can be forgiven, others that are watching our lives, and how we treat others, see in action what we really believe, and the principled life that we try to live becomes a mockery to them, and that in turn affects our bravery, and it may well take a long time, if ever, to teach others Truth when incidents like that happen. We have to be ever mindful of how we live our lives, and remember that each thing we do that is not aligned with His Word will have a consequence, and consequences will affect our courage and boldness in teaching others the Truth.
“And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the Lord do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.” Joshua 10:25
“Walk tall, walk straight and look the world right in the eye. All the years that I grew up mom taught these things to me, but I was young and foolish then and much to blind to see. I ignored the things she said, as if I had never heard, but now I see and understand the wisdom of those words.” 20th Century Masters

Even Judas was “confident” as long as he thought he would not get caught.
