God Knows

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened (Matthew 7:7, 8, ESV).

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength,” Corrie Ten Boom said. If we had lots to worry about before, we probably have more to worry about now. A hundred “what if’s” may be filling our minds.

We keep hearing “in these unprecedented times.” News flash. These are not unprecedented times. Plagues, famines, job losses, wars, isolation, and hopelessness have sated the people of our world nearly since creation.

Christians know that is why God sent His Son to live among us. We have needed rescuing since Adam and Eve sinned. The world began its trek downhill then, and it has not stopped. That is why Jesus said, “I came that they might have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

God knows the things that we need: freedom from the guilt of our sins, forgiveness of sins, strength to the inward man from Him, a kingdom and a family to belong to, and a wonderful place called heaven where we will live after we die. All those things our Father has promised us when we are in Christ.

Our daily bread? Clothing and housing? Although of lesser importance, God has promised us those things too. He knows what we need, and He has promised never to forsake us. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Jesus said, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”

Hymn: “Love Comes A-Trickling Down”

Heavenly Father, You have said that You will take care of us. Help us to internalize Your words and not worry, for You know what we need. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
