Would anyone seriously want God to leave them, their state, or their nation alone? This nation has promoted more good will throughout the nations of the world, has helped more people than any other nation, protected the rights of others, has given more food and assistance during disasters, and now I find those who live under the banner of freedom disregard and disrespect God. The following illustrates this point very well.
The story goes that a farmer was showing his picturesque, springing crop of oats to his cousin from the city. It had great promise.
The cousin remarked. “That is as fine oats as I have ever seen.” The farmer replied, “Yes, if God Almighty will let it alone, it will make a fine harvest.”
And so the story continues, the crop stopped where it was. God Almighty let it alone. This is a parable to us. Many people are proposing God leave us alone, that He stay out of our personal business and national affairs. They are suggesting that individuals and nations carry on without God, without even thought of God, that if He withholds Himself we shall prosper.
But if God should let us alone, we would perish. If He should withhold the growing of crops, we would have no food. If He should hold back the rains, there would be no water to drink. If He should stop the earth, there would be no place to put a foot. Whether we like it or not, we are dependent on a power outside of ourselves.
It is true that the God of love and mercy sometimes disciplines us. This, too, is for our good. He has said, “As many as I love I rebuke and chasten.” Revelation 3:19
I have known fathers to talk and talk vainly to heedless sons. It took a little discipline to get their attention.” ~ Leroy Brownlow
Perhaps a little discipline is in order for all of us, but somehow, our nation believes it is exempt from God withdrawing from us. “Behold I thought.”
“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” Proverbs 13:34
Now the question. Are you really sure you want Him to leave you alone?
“If Christopher Dawson is correct, the drive to de-Christianize America, to purge Christianity from the public square, public schools and public life, will prove culturally and socially suicidal for the nation.” ~ Suicide of a Super Power
