You must understand now, more clearly, that God is calling you to serve Him in and from the ordinary, material and secular activities of human life. He waits for us every day, in the lab, in the operating room, in the army barracks, in the university chair, in the factory, in the workshop, in the fields, in the home and in all the immense panorama of work.

We can teach in the most ordinary of ways and in the most unlikely of places. There are numerous opportunities each day, but we must know the Scriptures and be willing to teach when an opportunity presents itself.

Sometimes we tend to wait for the “big program,” the “big push,” or a meeting to get started in teaching others.  Most of these programs break down due to lack of interest, but if one truly has the desire to teach, all that is necessary is a knowledge of God’s Word and teaching those with whom we have contact.  I have taught lessons in brief moments of time and varying situations. Sometimes the moments lasted two or three minutes, sometimes fifteen.  When we are patient and consistent with others, and live our lives in accordance to His Word, it is very easy to teach.  For eventually trouble comes, and it is then our friends and acquaintances begin searching for answers.

There are many situations which arise where we can teach.  Right then and at that moment.  We can’t call the preacher or elder or anyone else to do the teaching for us, for the moment is lost as soon as we reach for your phone.  We may have other opportunities, but not the same one.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts:  and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
I Peter 3:15

“It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting:  for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.”     Ecclesiastes 7:2

“Ye are the salt of the earth; but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted.  It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world.  A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”   Matthew 5:13-16

” We aren’t called to shine our own light; we are called to reflect His.”    ~ Unknown
