Isn’t it a blessing that the Lord is the One who makes the final decision about who our rulers are (Rom. 13:1-7; Eph. 1:11)? However, we must remember he also chose Sennacharib (Assyria), Nechadnezzar (Babylon/Chaldea), Cyrus/Darius (Persians and Medes), Alexander the Great (Greece), Julius Caesar (or Augustus as some claim) (Rome), and literally destroyed the world with them.
It does make one wonder what the Lord has in mind! One thing we know—he destroyed the world in the flood due to that generation’s wickedness and refusal to listen, and did the same thing with the above mentioned kings. I think the world is not listening today!! Our Father in Heaven may have something in mind. As he told Baruch, he planted the men in the world, and he will root them up (Jer. 45:1-4).
“This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men“ (Dan. 4:17).
Meanwhile Christians can pray for safety as well as for food and clothing.
