A close friend pointed out yesterday how fortunate we are to have the conveniences we have which make our lives much easier.  We don’t take much notice until they break or we lose them and then must resort to other means until the problem is repaired or replaced.

We now have heating and cooling in our homes at the touch of a dial.  Water at our command and microwaves to heat food quickly.  Refrigerators to cool our food.  Cars which continue to become safer every year and get us quickly to destinations.  Grocery stores bring food which has been harvested and packaged for our convenience.  Cell phones and computers which communicate faster than ever, medical care on every corner, hospitals in virtually every city and plentiful food prepared by numerous restaurants, fast food services.  Grocery stores have food cooked and readily available and washers and dryers to clean and dry our clothes.  There was a time in history when we did not have these conveniences, but oh how we miss them when they are not available.

God blessed us with many things which we take for granted.  But we can begin again and take notice, being grateful to Him from Whom all blessings flow, for they may not always be around.

His perfect gift was His Son, which was a gift more valuable than all material things which He gives freely.  He also gave His Son freely.  May we never forget nor lose sight of the most perfect gift given man and become obedient to Him in all things that we may inherit eternal life if found faithful to Him.

“Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”    (Revelation 22:14)

“We were enjoying a very delicious meal, my wife and I and our five-year-old son, Paul.  One of the dishes was corn on the cob, tender, sweet and juicy.

After Paul’s corn disappeared like a train going through a tunnel, he passed his plate and said “Will you put some more corn on my cob, please?”

This kind of talk is natural for a child.  But what about us adults? Have we really forgotten who put the corn on the cob?  And a thousand other things God has done for us?

In this age of expanding development, it’s easy – if we are not thoughtful – to forget how much the Creator has done for us and how wholly dependent we are on Him.

Man plants but God gives the increase.

We can do much in appropriating and changing the created, but there our work ends.  We can’t start with nothing.  We can’t create.  We are still human, and God is still God.  As long as we make this distinction there is hope for us.
