It’s a busy time of year. School has started. There is the hustle and bustle, longer check-out lines at stores, heavier traffic, all the things that may distract. I must remind myself at these times to allow God to speak to me during the frenzied moments as well as the easy moments.
During the past few days I’ve been reading again through the Psalms. It is amazing how they bring comfort, encouragement, strength, courage, wisdom, and praise. The Psalmist often takes the simplest things before our eyes and gives them a profound sense of the Divine, reminding us of God’s greatness. Consider Psalm 19:1-6
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoices like a strong man to run its race. It’s rising is from one end of the heaven, and its circuit to the other end; and there is nothing hidden from its heat.”
Ahhh. There it is – the simplest thing. The sunrise and sunset are daily reminders of God’s great power and His provision. In fact, the Psalmist says if we look at everything around us, we can see his handiwork. The frenzy begins to fade when we pause to spend time with the Lord in His word.
Today’s verse: “Then God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day and lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.” Genesis 1:16
Today’s chuckle: A child was heard to say, “The greatest miracle in the Bible is when Joshua told his son to stand still and he obeyed him!”
