An RN was speaking to me today and asked if I had heard a recent song by a popular artist. It was pop, and I don’t listen to pop music. She told me that one of the songs was vulgar, but then I knew that, which is why I don’t listen. She told me that pop was getting progressively worse and I knew that too, for all genres are increasingly becoming vulgar. Laced with profanity throughout, among other sensual sounds and words. Country, which once held to morality, no longer forbids cursing in songs. They have no problem with it, and care not that young people by and large listen to their stations.
“Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?” James 3:10
“But now ye put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.” Colossians 3:8
I stopped watching TV because of profanity, lewdness, drinking, drugs, homosexuality, adultery. That is just a smattering of what is now allowed, not only on TV, but also in books, movies etc. I picked up a magazine in my eye doctor’s clinic not long ago, and with the exception of the survey that caught my attention, it was embarrassing the innuendos prevalent in that woman’s magazine. Subtle hints at lesbianism throughout. The movies, music, magazines, TV, sports, influence American culture and are having an influence upon Christians too. We need to be very careful what we see, read and hear. Discernment, discernment, discernment in all that we do.
“But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason or use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” Hebrews 5:14
This morning while reading social media news, posts by friends, a video came on about the toys that Walmart and other stores will be selling to parents for their children this Christmas. The man that had the video is from Dallas and was warning parents what was available to children. He showed an animated bear doing suggestive moves while playing suggestive music. Be very careful what you purchase your children. Satan is so subtle in how he entices us, and children are not out of his reach. Impressionable young children. “Be not deceived . . . .”
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” I Corinthians 15:33
Americans have become so familiar with cursing that they no longer blush when someone curses. It is that common in the work area, school. It’s everywhere.
“Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.” Jeremiah 8:12
I hear cursing throughout my day, and cringe when I hear it. It is so prevalent among men and women alike, but there is something else that I have noticed about cursing. The lives these people live are normally in opposition to Scripture also, and the cursing marches in step with their lives. They have become so used to speaking in expletives that they no longer are aware that they are cursing at all. It is common everyday speech.
Their children, all ages, are cursing too. I have seen young people in trouble because of cursing at school. I have heard 3rd graders cursing. You never used to hear that, and if they did, mom and dad disciplined them. That is no longer the case, for mom and dad do the same. … this is what happens to a nation when they drift from God’s Word. They no longer retain Him in their knowledge and their lives are telling on them.
“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”
II Timothy 2:16
“Beautiful words not backed by meaningful deeds mean nothing. An ounce of do is worth a pound of talk. People may doubt what you say but not what you do. Personal behavior is the backbone of our society. Our nation was given to us by the behavior of our founding fathers. Let’s hope that it’s not destroyed by the behavior of their floundering children.” Leroy Brownlow
“And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the Lord was with him.” I Samuel 18:14
