OTHER HEAVENLY BEINGS 3

One might ask why such a study and why categorize the heavenly beings this way?  I have tried to show that there are various types of spiritual beings working with and for the Heavenly Father and his elect. The main way these beings are categorized is by their appearances as well as their abilities, positions and purpose. These categories should help to give a more complete understanding and knowledge of heavenly beings.

WATCHER(S)

Some have speculated that the watchers are equivalent to the angels who serve as the eyes of the Lord (Rev. 5:6b—seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth).  Heavenly beings had reported to the Father when Abraham was arguing to save Lot and his cities (Gen. 18:21-22). If the Watchers are not separate beings, then at least they have different duties before God.

Jeremiah 4:16—Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

Daniel 4:13, 17, 23—I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven; 17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. 23 And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him.

SERAPHIM

Isaiah 6:2-6—Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

Isaiah 6:6—Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar.

WHO ARE THE WHEELS AND WHAT IS THEIR APPEARANCE?

Ezekiel 1:15-16—Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. 16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.

Ezekiel 10:2—And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight.

Ezekiel 10:6—And it came to pass, that when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels.

Ezekiel 10:9-10, 13—And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a beryl stone. 10 And as for their appearances, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been in the midst of a wheel. 13—As for the wheels, it was cried unto them in my hearing, O wheel.

Ezekiel 11:22—Then did the cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.

Daniel 7:9—I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

LIVING CREATURES

Ezekiel 1:5—Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

Ezekiel 1:13—As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.

Ezekiel 1:14—And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

Ezekiel 1:15—Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.

Ezekiel 1:19—And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.

Ezekiel 3:13—I heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great rushing.
