HOW MANY TIMES DOES THE LORD NEED TO SAY THIS TO MAKE IT TRUE?

• (Gal. 3:11)—But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
• 3:13—Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
• 3:19—Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
• Gal 3:23-25—But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
• Rom 7:4—Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
• Gal 5:2-4—Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.  4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

JESUS CAME TO FULFILL THE LAW.  DID HE FAIL?

“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” (Matt. 5:18).

If Christ fulfilled the Old Law (Mosaic Law), does it have any power today?

REMEMBER: A will is in effect as soon as a person dies (Heb. 9:17-17), until it is fulfilled.  NO ONE FULFILLED THE LAW OF MOSES UNTIL CHRIST (Matt. 5:17-18).

• After it is fulfilled, it is no lie, but it has no power.
• This is the same for the Old Testament Law (Heb 9:15).

5. Will the law of God, which was written in the Gentiles’ hearts judge the Gentiles AFTER the cross (Acts 17:30-31; John 12:48-50)?

17. RESEARCH QUESTION: Using the narrative (not the questions) of lesson 1 plus the short list of facts below as your research material, tell me whether Christians benefit by reading, studying or following anything from any part of the Old Testament (Genesis to Malachi) today. It will help for you to remember which books contain the Law.  It will also help if you remember the other categories (divisions) of the Old Testament books.

There are some basic facts some miss:

1. Baptism put the Israelites “into Moses” (1 Cor. 10:1-5).
2. God commands us to consider some strong examples of sinners under the Law of Moses and how His wrath is revealed against them (1 Cor. 10:6-11).
3. Abraham is our example of righteousness and faith (Rom. 4:22-24). Note particularly Romans 4:16-21).
4. Again in Romans 4:12, Abraham is our example of faith.
5. Hebrews 11:1-40 gives many witnesses (examples) of faith. Note when those people lived?
6. We are told not to harden our hearts like Israel but to “take heed therefore brethren.” (Heb. 3:8-13).
7. We have examples of unbelief in Israel not to follow (Heb. 4:1-3).
8. What God hated then, He hates today (Pro 6:16-19).
9. If God and Jesus have not changed (Mal. 3:6; James 1:17; Heb. 13:8), is their judgment of what is good and evil still the same today?
10. We know that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Tim. 3:16-17). If all scripture is profitable for Christians, are the OT scriptures still useful too?
