You have not been excused!

Our hands were washed, the week’s Bible verses had been studied, and we were getting ready to eat with our neighborhood bus kids. We were gathering the kids together so we could pray when I saw a cute little four year old being a bit rowdy. I went over and kneeled beside him, folded my hands together, and bowed my head. I watched out of the corner of my eye as he kneeled exactly the way I did, folded his hands, and bowed his head. Then my knee reminded me of my age. Quickly, I stretched out my hand to steady myself and held back a smile when my little friend did the same.

Sometimes we go about our lives and we forget that the kids are watching. I wonder if we realize that they learn more from our actions than our words. Do they see us pray? Do they watch the joy in our faces when we tell others about Jesus? Do they see us talk about him at all? Do they know without a doubt that Christ comes first? Or do we just go to church, warm a pew, and watch our watches?

We are at a time in our lives when we are so bogged down with schedules and details that I’m afraid we’re missing out on the reason we’re here. We’re here to point others to the Christ. That starts at home. It’s not the Bible class teacher’s job. Nor is it the youth minister’s. It’s ours.

Ladies, your children need to hear you pray. They need to see you search the Scriptures. They need to know that Christ is always on your mind. They need to hear you speak words of grace, light, and truth into other’s lives.

There’s no warning in the Bible right before Matthew 28:19 that states in big, bold letters that the following verses are for the men only. You have not been excused! We are all to go into the world, make disciples, teach and baptize in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That’s our mission. Show your children that you know it, believe it, and will continue to put it into action as long as you walk this earth. Do it. The kids are watching.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
