WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BODY OF MOSES?

Today, as I was listening to a pre-school child “read,” I happened to notice on page 70-71 (THE BIBLE FOR CHILDREN or THE CHILDREN’S BIBLE (Bible text Copyright © The Bible Society of India; Illustrations copyright © Jose Perez Nontero and Scandinavian Bible Society) an illustration of two men taking Moses’ body for burial. Consider the following scriptures and know that no man buried Moses, nor does any man know where he was buried.

Numbers 31:2
2 Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

Deuteronomy 32:50
50 And die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people:

Deuteronomy 34:1-6
And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,
2 And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,
3 And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.
4 And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
5 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD .
6 And he (Michael the Archangel?? Or the Lord??) buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.

Jude 9

9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

Parents, teachers, older students, we cannot be too careful about what pictures teach. Most any Bible story book will have such mistakes. Please take time to teach the truth to your children.
