What if your physician, in order to spare your feelings about your medical condition, told you lies to keep you or your loved ones from knowing the real truth about your situation? Would you return to him? The answer would be “no” for virtually all of us. We may not want to hear any bad news, but we are even less desirous of false information.
If we were on trial in a court of law, would we want lies told about us and the truth kept from the judge and jury? The answer for each of us would be a resounding “no.” We would not want to go to jail because the facts of the case were withheld from the judge and jury. It would be a grave injustice to us if truth were not upheld in a court of law. All who take the witness stand are to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
How about our banker? Would we keep your money in a bank which was lying to us about our account, and secretly taking the money we have earned? Again, a resounding “no.”
In all of the above situations and numerous dealings we have with businesses, schools, doctors, etc., we do not want truth glossed over as if it doesn’t matter. We want the truth about our physical condition so we can feel better. The same applies to the banker. We would get our money and go elsewhere to someone we trust; certainly we don’t want lies in a court of law and miscarriages of justice. We feel the same about any interaction with our fellow man. We want the truth.
God’s Word is truth. In His Word we find the steps of salvation rather than man’s ideas on how to get to heaven.
“Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” Proverbs 23:23
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6:16-19
“Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.” Proverbs 24:28
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar and the father of it.” John 8:44
“On every topic – whether religion, politics, education, finance, security, health – we need the plain, unvarnished Truth, the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth. To be fed pleasant falsehoods is cruelly and monstrously injurious. Moreover, it denies us our basic freedoms – freedom of choice and freedom of action, based on facts.
Half-truth is not sufficient; we can be victimized by the wrong half, and that’s a whole lie. Another thing, truth should not be stretched; it’s not like a rubber band made to fit the circumstances. We must handle it in its true form. So when you ask for truth, be sure you want it and stay for the answer. If you don’t, then you have been false to yourself.” ~ Leroy Brownlow
“The least deviation from the Truth is multiplied later a thousandfold.” ~ Aristotle
