WOMEN’S INFLUENCE IN THE HOME” – LESSON 2 Biblical Homes

Every Tuesday you should see a post dedicated to “Biblical Homes.”  These articles will typically be done by Eileen Light, but guest authors may also be used for these devotionals.

Ladies, you’ve heard it said as well as I.  “If mama isn’t happy, then nobody’s happy.”  There is much truth to the statement.  Like it or not, we exert a powerful influence within our homes, and when you look at this.  Is this not what we desire for our homes?  A haven for the heart from a threatening world.

It is true we cannot have ideal days every day.  It isn’t humanly possible.  We have frustrations, vexations, illness, work related problems, family related problems, and day to day problems with upkeep of the home.  The list is seemingly endless.

…and so I am turning this around to honor you, and show just how important you truly are to the home. God elevated you to a place of honor.  You exert a tremendous influence upon your husband and children.  They look to us for love, nourishment, comfort, advice and encouragement in a world which has very little of that to give.  It is vital to our Christian homes to provide those values of an intangible nature, if we are to achieve a Godly home.  With God at the heart of the home, we are the keys to the failure or elevation of the home as He designed.  Our Lord was born into such a home.

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”  Luke 2:52

Our husbands and children may achieve successful positions in secular life.  Their names may appear in papers.  They may receive glory and honor, but behind them is a wife and mother who used her influence to help them all to be the very best they could be, both spiritually and within the secular realm.

“Who can find a virtuous woman?  for her price is far above rubies.  The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.  She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”     Proverbs 31:10-12

“Strength and honor are her clothing;  and she shall rejoice in time to ome.  She openeth her mouth with wisdom;  and in her tongue is the law of kindness.  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.  Her children arise up and call her blessed;  her husband also, and he praiseth her.  Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:  but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.  Give her of the fruit of her hands;  and let her own works praise her in the gates.”   Proverbs  31:25-31

“If we work upon marble, it will perish;  if we work upon brass, time will efface it;  if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust.  But if we work upon immortal minds, if we imbue them with high principles, with the just fear of God and love of their fellowmen, we engrave on those tablets something which no time can efface but which will brighten all eternity.”                ~ Daniel Webster

Let us always remember He elevated woman and though the world says your place in the home is unimportant, it is not true.

“The hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world.”

“I turn from hieroglyphic feeling
With hesitance I hope
These scribblings fumble into a heart
As their end is near I’ll start.

On the highway’s hum at night.
Your fiery bloom’s still in sight.
On sidewalks of passing faith
Your voice is there, keeps me safe.
When a chaos soul needs healing.
Peace is found beneath you ceiling.
In times of tears, in reach your hug.
The same as when indifference shrugs.
In days of smiles, your beam is there.
In eyes that dance in memory’s stare.

With grateful eyes to God above.
And feet turned straight by your selfless love
That I never thanked you for.
I know now to tell you more.”          ~ Jeremy Light
